Chapter 5 : Epith’s choice.
Roumen returned to the city with the injured Elderine and upon seeing them, the humans and elves surrounded him.
He held his sword high up to the sky, pledging to fight back with all his power - even his own life.
Just as he finished speaking, a terrible darkness covered the land and the forces of evil all began a simultaneous attack. Countless monsters rushed towards the castle walls, unperturbed by the elves’ arrows. This coordinated attack - with seemingly every single one of the monsters was devestating for Elderine’s army. Many elves and humans died. Elderine came out to the battlefield, wounded.
She could see Epith in the distance, his eyes were now black and his hair turned grey. They stared at each other for a moment, then he raised his hand.
Elderine shut her eyes tight. The good humans and elves were no match Epith’s band of evil.
That very moment, something unbelievable happened. The fallen elves began to attack the monsters! The monsters were totally defenceless against this unexpected attack. Epith attacked the monsters with all his rage - as if he were cleansing his soul.
Elderine’s heart warmed. She cast a spell with all her spirit on Roumen.
“Attack!! Follow me!!” - Roumen shouted with his deep voice.
The light burst out of Elderine’s chest and spread into the night sky. The hallowed light filled the heart of the humans and elves - even the fallen ones. Happiness once again touched their souls - they hadn’t been completely corrupted, only blinded by greed.
Once the battle was over, those elves approached Elderine and begged for forgiveness. She granted each and every one of their requests - but there was one elf missing from the group: Epith. Elderine called his name, she searched for him. She couldn’t find him anywhere on the battlefield, dead or alive. He had disappeared, in shame. Elderine grieved for her missing brother all night…
When Roumen heard Elderine’s crying, he tried to console her…
“Epith did not leave you for good, he is on a journey. A journey for atonement.”
Roumen’s words helped. She stopped crying.
From then on, the elves that had betrayed her were known as Dark Elves. Soon after this final battle, a great tower was built to celebrate their harmony and to act as a sign that Epith could return at any time…
